Joining a family support group can be beneficial for individuals who have a family member with intellectual disabilities for several reasons:
  1. Emotional Support: Being part of a community of individuals who are in similar situations can provide emotional support and a sense of belonging.
  2. Information & Resources: Family support groups can provide access to information and resources related to caring for a person with intellectual disabilities.
  3. Networking: Family support groups offer the opportunity to connect and network with other families, which can lead to new relationships and potential sources of support.
  4. Sharing Experiences: Family support groups provide a space for families to share their experiences, challenges, and coping strategies with each other.
Overall, family support groups can help to reduce stress and isolation, and provide support and practical information to individuals caring for a family member with intellectual disabilities.
